WaveSecure
Price : Free
Version : 3.0.0.40
With all the mails, contacts and other important information on my phone, losing it would be the worst nightmare. I feel so much better after installing WaveSecure on my phone. Thanks to the developer who did an awesome job with this.
What :
Create an online account on www.wavesecure.com. After that is done, you can use your pin and login to your account.
1. Backup contacts, SMS and call logs from your phone to your online account.
2. Upload photos and videos that you take. It is a great way to back up your data.
3. Restore your contacts and SMS messages from the online account to your phone. One thing though – it looks like it took a backup of my gmail contacts and not my phone contacts. I still have to play with it to figure it out. For people who back up everything to gmail contacts, this would be no problem.
4. Lock down your phone – This to me is the most important feature. I am not new to losing my phone. You can get online and issue a lock command which will instantly lock your phone.
5. Wipe out all contacts, SMS, call logs, photos, videos and files from your memory card.
You can do all these from your online account as well as from the app. If you lose your phone, from the online account you can also track the SIM and the location on the phone. In case you lose your phone, you can also track the calls being made, SMSes sent or received etc. by using Backup for Call Logs, SMSes etc.

For users of Droid in Verizon, the SIM functionality is no use, since it is CDMA and not GSM.
Another cool thing is that you can specify any number of buddies that it will send an alert to if the phone is lost. All the buddy numbers can be automatically displayed in the message that flashes in the screen if the phone gets locked. When you add a buddy, an SMS will be sent to let him know you have added him as a buddy. You can add up to 9 buddies

I remember a time when a friend and I had lunch at a restaurant. We made a call from our table and then walked out to the car and realized that we had left the cell phone at the table. When we went back it was missing in action. At times like those, I would like to make it ring. It could either startle me if it had slipped under the table or someone else if they had stolen it. By the way, when we tested this, it was around 12:44AM and it was enough to wake up a few people. If you lock the phone, it has a screeching scream till you unlock it. Even if you decrease the volume, it increases after a few seconds.
There is also a paid version for this app which we are planning to review soon.

I was scared after seeing so much of my information on the phone. The Droid lock can have only so many natural combinations. It is just a matter of time before some one figured out how to unlock someones phone.
Wave Secure seems like it it would do the job for me. It already backed up my contacts and data. So that is in store.
Hope, I wouldn’t have to use the disable droid feature.
Good find.
@Cheewee – Thanks for your comments. It is nice to of you to give back to the community. Hoping to see many more such apps from you.
@Fulcrum – Exactly what I felt. Glad you liked it.
@Melter: You’re welcome
@All: WaveSecure now shows up in Market for QVGA devices like HTC Tattoo.
Remember, download before 31st Jan 2010 and you will be able to enjoy a free WaveSecure account for as long as you use that Android device.
Do help to spread the word.
Thanks,
