Google Latitude Android app Maps feature review
Price : Free
It might be a privacy issue to let the whole world track where you are at any point of time. It might be an added security or even luxury to let a select few people know that about you. If you value privacy to the point that you don’t want even your close circle to know where you are, then this app is not for you. Thanks to my friend Kyle who let me monitor his whereabouts for the last few weeks while test driving this feature.
What
Open the Maps application and click on Menu to go to Latitude.
From here, you could choose add friends.
It them sends your friend an email asking them to confirm that you are okay with it. After all the formalities are done, you can see their location real-time.
It also lets you specify what level of detail you want to share with this friend.
If you feel compelled to hide your location anytime, you could chose to either Hide your location or turn off latitude.
Given that you can still be out of the radar when you choose to, this is a very useful feature. I feel happy knowing that my family can know where I am if they ever feel the need to. To me, that is added security. Agreed, it could be a blessing for some and a curse for others.
The best part is that latitude friends don’t need to have a GPS enabled phone to be added. They could keep up to it online.
